PodXT Live Purchase…
Posted in: Gear by rw on November 17, 2008
I recently pruchased a PodXT Live used from a guy on Craig’s List. I am very pleased with this buy. I use it as an audio interface to record with and I really like the tones. I use the HiWatt tone mostly and it sounds really full and expressive. I am looking at getting a Tech21 Power Engine 60 for live performance. I can get some really good bass tones out of it as well. I downloaded a Geddy Lee patch from Line6 and it sounds very good. It will really depend on the equipment doing the reproduction when I play live but I am pleased with the recorded sound and the headphones.
Update on CD…
Posted in: Projects by rw on October 13, 2008
Hi all, things are moving slow on the cd front, but at least they’re moving!! I have gotten some guitar tracks laid down and should be finishing up with the mixing of the first song soon. I am also putting up some excersises and studies for some of my students. They will be able to download and listen to a piece. Along with those, I am going to upload some of my favorite pieces for listening and/or download. I don’t have an electric guitar yet so I am starting with some classical pieces.

I was listening to an interview of a young person the other day. I don’t remember the show, but they were being asked why they were attending the church they were at. The only thing that I remember the young person saying was how much the passion of the congregation attracted her. It was one of those times when everything in your mind is pushed away and that one truth just knocks you right between the eyes. I thought of the book by John Piper, “Let the Nations be Glad”, in which he stated that missions exists because worship does not. How can I live a life of worship? As I was thinking about that today, I thought about the guitar lessons I would be teaching tonight and how these lessons will impact my students. Then it hit me, my worship lifestyle must be a learned behavior. When I give a lesson, the goal is to play. No matter how much the player knows, playing is the desired activity. With each lesson, the player understands more, has improved on the first lessons, and can attempt more difficult things. With all this study, the outcome is playing. The student continues to play.
As a Christian, my goal is to worship. We were created to worship God and bring Him glory. All of life’s lessons prepare us to worship. As a student of God, I study His word, I pray, and I have fellowship with other believers. All of this is used by God to enable my worship. We should not study for the sake of study or to obtain knowledge for its own end. Our study should sharpen our focus on God and who He is, and open our eyes to ourselves and who we are. As we recognize God and His majesty we can not help but stand in awe and worship. Jesus said, “..If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto Me…”. I commit to making a more concerted effort in living all of my life to bring Glory to my God. As I worship Him, my faith grows, my love for Him grows, and my desire to accomplish His will in my life grows. As I see God work in my life, I worship Him more and the cycle continues.
I believe we need to demonstrate a true passion for our Saviour. I don’t mean a bunch of contrived actions or planned manipulations of peoples emotions, but an honest expression of a life sold out to our loving Lord. That can only happen as we spend time getting to know our Saviour. I confess, that way to much time goes by between my conversational times with God. It is a struggle to shut out the noise and distraction of the world and take time to invest in our relationship with God, but that is what we are called to do as believers. We were created to glorify God, and we can only do that to our level of understanding. Let us not wait until we have a certain level before we worship. Just as the musician plays and uses his study to improve, let us take on the same mindset and worship, using our study to have a greater understanding of God to fuel a life lived to worship God in Spirit and Truth.
Father, consume me, Fill me with a passion to know You so that my life honors Your son.
First song of my cd…
Posted in: Projects by rw on July 8, 2008
I have almost completed the first song for my cd. It is called “My Saviour’s Love”. I thought it was complete but I have gotten an idea for a bridge that I am adding now. I am having to do all of the song via midi as I don’t have a way of recording live yet. I am working on getting a Line6 PodX3 Live to use for performance and as a recording interface. Perhaps by the end of this week I will have the new song up!!

Vacation!!
Posted in: Uncategorized by rw on June 26, 2008
My family and I are going on vacation next week! I plan to spend enough time to finish my first mp3 and upload it to the site. I am really excited about this and am having a blast getting this finished. I am using Band In A Box and Garage Band to work on this project. So the plan is to have the 1st mp3 on the site by the end of next week. The song is called “My Saviour’s Love” and is an instrumental. Most of my music is instrumental and I find it much easier to express myself with my guitar than with words.

Hi,
My current setup consists of a Takamine EC132SC Classical Guitar and a Slammer (by Hammer) P-Bass clone. I am currently playing guitar and bass for the Worship team at Waxahachie Bible Church. I am not using any effects pedals and run either guitar through a DI to the main board. We have another acoustic player and an electric player, so the classical slides into a nice space in the mix. When I play bass, the Slammer has a rich low end with just enough grind to accent the voice. I started playing bass for the church about 8 months ago. Before then I played guitar only. I was looking for a good tube amp that I could use with attenuation so I could get a good tone and not be over-powering in the mix. However, now that I am also playing bass I am looking at the new Line6 PodX3 Live. This will provide amp modeling for my guitar and my bass and I will only have one device to tote around. The X3 has some very nice tones and I am looking forward to experimenting and trying to dial in the sound that’s in my head. (bass & guitar)

What is the goal of worship?
Posted in: Worship by rick on May 21, 2008
The main goals of worship are as follows:
- Magnify the worth of God and bring Him pleasure
- Teach the doctrinal truths of Scripture
- Evoke a whole-hearted response to the revelation of God’s love and character
- Inspire others to live their lives for the Glory of God
- Motivate others to know Him and enjoy Him
- Help others become more aware of His presence in their lives
